Situada en la zona centro de la ciudad, en el centro de la plaza hay unos jardines que contienen una gran variedad de \u00e1rboles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Debe su nombre a que fue en el Convento de la Merced, situado en dicha plaza, donde estuvo hospedado Crist\u00f3bal Col\u00f3n a la espera de que finalizara la conquista de Granada por parte de los Reyes Cat\u00f3licos. Esta era la condici\u00f3n que le hab\u00edan puesto para apoyar su misi\u00f3n a las Indias. Torre defensiva, del siglo XIV<br>Instituto Nacional de Empleo y Servicio Andaluz de Salud<br>Colegio Ferroviario, centro educativo fundado en 1933<br>Colegio Col\u00f3n, centro educativo fundado en 1929.
